Exceptional Exercise and Chiropractic Therapy

To manage lower back pain, it is essential to combine cardiovascular and strengthening exercises with chiropractic care. This is because patients with heart problems need to consult with both a chiropractor and their primary care physician to be certain that they can tolerate cardiovascular fitness-promoting exercises and activities.

Chiropractic treatments include a practical amount of exercises and activities that need to be performed daily. Explicit exercise instructions are provided by the chiropractor for the patient's condition before the commencement of any exercise program.

Benefits of Exercise

Studies have indicated that exercises can help in reducing acute and chronic lower back pain. It also strengthens the back and improves the quality of life. When exercises are combined with chiropractic care, it increases digestion, promotes better circulation, and keeps the muscles in proper tone.

Walking briskly at least once or twice a day is the most popular and convenient forms of exercises. Various forms of work and / or household tasks can also function as an exercise program.

    • Pulling the knees to the chest
    • Posterior pelvic tilts

  • Extension biased (if a patient is least symptomatic in extension, especially if leg pain centralizes or diminishes)
    • Prone press-up type exercises

Evident Efficacy of Exercise in Chiropractic Care

Based on reports from the Scientific Commission of the Council on Chiropractic Guidelines and Practice Parameters (CCGPP), evidences show that:
  • Exercises are as effective as other non-surgical treatments for chronic low back pain
  • Use of a graded-activity exercise programs in occupational settings can heal subacute lower back pain
  • Exercises are no more effective than other non-surgical treatments for acute lower back pain
It is essential for chiropractors to perform an intensive review of an exercise program subsequent to its initial therapeutic trial to regulate its effectiveness on the patient. For example, chiropractors can determine the effectiveness of an exercise by measuring the spinal range of motion.
